Somehow – without even knowing exactly when or why – we have taken on blame as an unavoidable, everyday topic.
Dealing with blame is actually a good thing, because it holds many answers, and with the answers come guidelines for improvement.
However, dealing with blame the way most of us usually do – by accusing someone or something (circumstances and the like) – serves no purpose beyond talk for the sake of talk.
On the other hand, dealing with blame by questioning ourselves and our own actions is completely “healthy”!
How? If you step back a little and look at your world “from a distance”, you will realise that no one has imposed anyone on us, and that nothing in our lives or work is there with the intention of spoiling our plans, peace, joy or fulfilment. We literally create all our circumstances ourselves, through our thoughts and actions.
Unfortunately, only a few people question themselves and the actions that actually brought them to where they are. Why? Out of habit… out of belief… and because it is (of course!) less painful to blame someone or something else than ourselves.
Because when someone or something else is to blame, that “someone else’s” fault neither hurts nor touches us personally, does it? When we accuse others, we are “clean”, because “it’s not down to us”. But is that really so?
01What does this have to do with compressed air?
Everything is connected to everything – including compressor systems – because every move we make starts with our ideas, and behind them are our mentality, our habits and our beliefs. Here are some simple, common examples:
- “The compressor died right now! It picked exactly this moment to stop!” – OK; did you give it good operating conditions? Did you look after it in line with good business practice? Even though you knew how worn and old it was, did you still leave your plant without a “plan B”? So – it’s not the compressor’s fault!
- “Water in the system is causing us problems!” – OK; did you take every necessary step to remove the moisture the compressor draws in from the surroundings? Did you install cyclone separators, compressed air dryers and other equipment designed for this? So – it’s not the moisture’s fault!
- “We’re getting traces of oil on our products!” – OK; did you include compressed air filtration that removes oil particles, or an activated carbon tower that also removes oil vapour? So – it’s not the oil’s fault!
- “Our own people service the compressor, and regularly. I don’t know why it stopped when we change the filters and oil regularly!” – OK; are those people genuinely qualified to look after your compressor as a whole, or have they just seen that filters screw or slot in and assumed that is “all it takes”? It isn’t! A compressor is an assembly, a system, and every “why” has a series of “becauses”. Every activity in and on a compressor involves a chain of cause and effect. When a qualified technician comes to do “just” a regular service, he also inspects and checks all the other crucial functions, connections, elements and components – because that is his job, the one he trained for and keeps updating his knowledge and skills for with every innovation. The technician’s focus is on your compressor and everything connected with it.
When we point a finger at someone or something and put the blame for our bad situation or poor result on them, let’s remember that while we point one finger at another person, three of our own fingers point back at us.
So – search, ask, analyse, compare, question… It is your right, and at the same time your duty to yourself!
02Tell us!
If you already have experience with us and were not satisfied with some part of it, please get in touch – it is the only right way for us to get even better.
If we did something that did not meet your expectations, and it all passed “just like that”, without a word, we will think everything was perfect and you will be left dissatisfied. So – tell us! Feel free to say it! Ask! Question! Only that way can we build an even better story together.
The more sources on a topic you find, the more facts you gather, the more details and options you have, the more control you will have over your situation – from ordinary everyday life to growing your business.
Our business is compressed air and everything connected with it. If it is one of your many needs – go ahead, ask us anything that comes to mind. The right information, in the right place, at the right time is priceless!
On the other hand, if you let everything run “by itself” and take no interest in it, and end up with a result you are not happy with… it is clear whose fault that outcome will be.
Questions have never been “showing off” or “being a know-it-all”, nor are discussions and debates arguments – because the only goal of every dialogue is a joint effort by both sides to find a solution both will be happy with.
